How To Set Up The Perfect Morning Routine
What is the one thing you can do to improve your life significantly? You should begin by starting your day off with the perfect morning routine. The internet is awash with posts from celebrities, sports stars etc. telling us about how their morning routine has made the difference for them. Why then is having a morning routine so important, well to put it simply, it works!
Perfect Your Morning Routine
A morning routine puts intentionality in your day. It gives your morning form, design, and function. Imagine yourself traveling through each step, calm, cool, and collected. You know exactly what’s needed of you and when. There are no surprises to leave you scrambling. Nor are you likely to forget what’s important.
If it seems intimidating to form a routine to do all these
things, take heart. Really, there are only five steps you need to worry about
to make your day come off without a hitch. It's all about getting that Perfect Morning Routine
1. Understand What It’s All About
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” Zig Ziglar
Embarking on a new routine is hard work and that is why most
people give up. You have to work hard to build this routine into something
which will be habitual. It’s easy to go back to the old ways you’ve always done
things, especially if you feel tired or discouraged.
This is why your first step involves understanding your
purpose. Know why you’re striving to have a better morning, and speak these
words out loud every morning when you first get up to remind yourself of them.
Are you looking for higher productivity? A calmer day? More confidence? You’ll
need to figure it out if you don’t know before beginning.
2. Implement Your Routine in Baby Steps
You can’t change around your entire sleep schedule or make
profound changes about your mornings all at once without burning out quickly.
It’s just not possible as we are not superhumans all the time.
So once you understand what you want to achieve make a plan.
As part of making this plan create a schedule. For example, if you normally get
up at 9:00am but want to get up at 7:00, you’ll want to make small changes that
work toward your goal. So for the first week, you might get up at 8:45 and the
week after 8:30, etc.
3. Commit to Consistency
You’re not going to succeed in building new habits if you
don’t do the same thing repeatedly. Realize you can’t do this in half measures.
Commit to doing this routine every single day.
You can view this as ‘stickability’. This is a critical step
in adopting the perfect morning routine, it needs to be habitual. You have to
be able to adhere to your target/goal or else you will always find a way to not
do it and give up.
4. Work Out an Evening Routine
Your morning will go better if you combine it with an
evening routine. This could simply be to go to bed at a regular time or maybe
spend ten minutes before you sleep reading a book etc.
You can also use evenings to do prep work for the next day,
such as laying out your clothes.
5. Create Your Routine
The key to making your routine is to address all of your
needs. These fall into four main categories:
• Physical
: including exercise, healthy diet, regular check ups etc.
• Spiritual
: could include meditation or prayer
• Mental :
includes learning and puzzle solving activities
• Emotional
: including self care, mindfulness, affirmations etc.
The goal is to bring yourself into a harmonious balance
every day. Personally, I use a journal to help both plan and track how my
morning routine helps maintain my ‘balance’. Here's a link for one I use: Daily Journal

Conclusion
“Days are expensive. When you spend a day, you have one less day to spend. So make sure you spend each one wisely.” Jim Rohn
Having a good, consistent and repeatable morning routine
really is the best way to start your day. Together these five steps will help
you create that perfect morning routine. Now you’re ready to start your day out
right and take on the world!
